Happy Earth Weekend! We hope you are all taking some time out of your busy schedules to enjoy and take care of the magnificent planet we call home. There are plenty of great events to discover happening in and around Kingston NY this weekend.

For some exciting new art, check out ArtPort on the Rondout with their exhibition “Form or Function,” running April 24, 2021 until June 6, 2021. This show features artists Chuck von Schmidt, Karen Jaimes, Staveley Kuzmanov, Traci Johnson, Barbara Marks, Ellie Murphy, Courtney Puckett, Jim Osman, Rachel Urkowitz and Gabriele Hamill, Inna Babaeva, Clemens Kois, Sophie Kravits, Christina Kruse, Jeanne Atkin, Kathleen Vance, Erika DeVries, and Rodger Stevens. The exhibition “Form or Function” presents works that crosses over media and discipline exploring the relationship of objects in between contemporary art, design and craft.

Plenty of music to catch this weekend including Conor Wenk and Sabrina and Sasa at Woodstock’s newest spot Pearl Moon. The Rock Academy presents their ‘Solid 70’s Gold’ at the Bearsville Theater, and also in Woodstock- Mateo & Dougan and Cloudburst outside at the Colony Beer Garden. Also not to be missed- the Bunkhouse Boys at Keegan Ales and The Deadbeats and The Classics and some food from the Flores Food Truck at Grand Cru in Rhinebeck.

Join local favorite Joey Eppard, lead vocalist and guitarist for the experimental/progressive rock band, 3, this Saturday, April 24th for a Patreon-exclusive interactive concert! Another great virtual music happening to tune in for is the Webcast: “An Evening To Be Grateful at Levon Helm Studios,” featuring amazing musicians Amy Helm, Marco Benevento, Connor Kennedy, Zach Djanikian, Tony Leone, and Jeff Hill.

Not to be missed are the Bardavon Presents Virtual Cinema livestreams. This weekend you can catch Puccini’s La Bohème, Kinky Boots The Musical, and a great opportunity to catch ‘Layer the Walls’- a live theater piece that explores stories of a tenement apartment in New York City that was once home to hundreds of new immigrants. Shadow and Bunraku puppetry, along with masks bring to life the stories of Irish, Italian and Jewish families. The Bardavon and UPAC present this virtual edition that includes an introduction to the tenements, a performance of one of the stories in Layer the Walls, and Q&A where the artists answer questions typically received on tour. Included are workshops that highlight the artistry seen in the performance. Young people are guided with step by step instructions to get up on their feet and be creative!

Take advantage of an exciting opportunity from the Friends of the Walkway Nonprofit Organization and enjoy the Walkway Over the Hudson AT NIGHT, happening this Friday! Enjoy the moonlit Hudson River from above, and check out the Mid-Hudson Bridge and its spectacular lights. “There is truly nothing like a moonlit evening on the World’s Longest Elevated Pedestrian Bridge.”

Also- make some time for a truly zen activity- a wood-working class at the Hudson River Maritime Museum! Why not try their Half Hull Carving Class this Sunday?! Spend the day down by the Rondout Creek learning woodworking at the Hudson River Maritime Museum Wooden Boat School. During this introductory woodworking class, students will learn to carve a half hull model using basic carving tools and woodworking skills.
