Doers and Dreamers – Carolina Lopez
The stately Governor Clinton Hotel reflects a presence of past grandeur on one of Kingston’s busiest streets, but emblematic of how things have evolved in this area, it now serves as a residence for seniors with storefronts and office space for businesses. It is fitting that one of those businesses is that of a young, Latino, female entrepreneur who serves a clientele that is representative of our entire community. Meet this week’s Doer and Dreamer, Carolina Lopez, who is helping to brighten up the facade of a grand old building, as well as our community.

Where are you from originally?
I was born in Mexico
What brought you to the Kingston area and keeps you in this area?
My parents brought me to Kingston when I was 5 yrs old. We came here for a better opportunity. I love Kingston, it has given me many opportunities. The community is very supportive of small businesses. I would love to thank the community for a great first year at the salon. Hair by Carolina will be offering free haircuts on Aug. 21 for children 12 and under. My team Ruby, Stephanie, Maria, Judith, Nicole, will all be volunteering at the event.
What is your favorite hangout in this area and why?
I have two kids and owning my own business gives very little free time so when I do have free time I spend it with them. They love Forsyth Park. They play at the park or we go the Forsyth nature center and see the animal exhibits.
When you’re not in Kingston, what’s your idea of a wonderful city to visit, and why?
I love New York City. It is so unique and innovative. There is so much entertainment, the nightlife, broadway, food, the subway. It’s such a popular shopping city. People speak different languages and I love the fast pace.
Tell us something that we never would have guessed about you.
I went to Fashion Institute of Technology to pursue a career in Fashion Merchandise. My passion is Hair Styling and I have been doing it for 16 yrs.
