“Living History” presented by Theatre on the Road at the Matthewis Persen House Museum

Ulster County Clerk Nina Postupack is pleased to welcome Theatre on the Road to the Matthewis Persen House on Saturday, July 16 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm for the first of several Living History programs this season.  The house is located at 74 John Street in uptown Kingston, at the historic intersection of John and Crown Streets. Admission is free and all are welcome.

Meet Matthewis Persen at the Persen House this Saturday.  Persen will be there to talk about his life during the Revolution, the roles he played, and the aftermath of the burning of Kingston by British forces.  Was Matthewis Persen’s tavern a hub for likeminded patriots?  How did he balance running a tavern and serving in the militia?  Interact with this historical figure and get a feel for what life was really like during the Revolutionary War.  Monologues will be every hour on the hour starting at 11:00 am with the final at 2:00 pm.

Theatre on the Road offers entertaining and educational programs at schools, libraries, historic sites and theaters. Their productions, both original and classic, are produced and performed for the purpose of enriching and inspiring a diverse audience that include students and the general public.  Theatre on the Road is the creation of actor, writer and director Frank Marquette along with his wife and producing partner, Kristen. “Our histories are no longer buried,” says Marquette.  “The spirits have voices, and we are giving you an opportunity to listen to them. Meet a few characters from Kingston’s rich past. You’ll be glad you did!”

“We are so excited to welcome back Theatre on the Road for their second weekend this season,” stated County Clerk Nina Postupack.  “The Persen House is the perfect venue to for these entertaining, educational and interactive encounters with the historical figures from Kingston’s past.”
