Heroes’ Day in Kingston, NY

Join the Hudson River Maritime Museum, the Trolley Museum of New York, the Volunteer Firemen’s Hall and Museum of Kingston, historic fireboat John J. Harvey, the U.S. Coast Guard and area fire, police, and rescue departments in an event highlighting the courage, selflessness, and sacrifice of Emergency Service Personnel for Heroes’ Day. There will be family-friendly activities as well as deck tours of the John J. Harvey. At the end of the day, there will be a ceremony to honor active, retired, and fallen EMS Personnel as well as a remembrance for the events of September 11, 2001. This ceremony will be accompanied by music performed by the Woodstock Brass Quintet.

 

Heroes’ Day Schedule of Events:

Sunday, September 9 ​
12:00 PM – John J. Harvey arrives at HRMM docks

12:00 PM to 5:00 PM: Ongoing activities
Hudson River Maritime Museum open – discount admission plus free admission for first responders and active-duty military
Children’s “Courage” and “Helping” and Coloring activities
Memory Wall: “On 9/11 I was…”
Readings of “Fireboat: The Heroic Adventures of the John J. Harvey”
Get to know the Heroes’ of Ulster County activity
Frisbee toss, water balloon toss, and chances to guess the amount of M&M’s in the jar – *these activities will include a first place prize*

1:30 PM – 2:00 PM – K9 Demonstration by Ulster County Sheriff’s Department

2:30 PM – 3:00 PM – Dive Demonstration by Ulster County Sheriff’s Department

3:00 PM – 3:50 PM – Boat ride on the John J. Harvey for HRMM Members only. Pre-registration required.

3:45 PM – 5:00 PM – Musical performance by Woodstock Brass Quintet.

4:30 PM – 5:00 PM – Ceremony honoring emergency service personnel in front of the John J. Harvey
