While You Were Out: 9w Artists
While You Were Out: 9W Artists, The First Show
Step into While You Were Out, a dynamic presentation of seven Hudson Valley artists, each with a distinct voice in contemporary painting. The title of the show hints at the unseen and often unspoken creative processes that unfold over time -‒ when we aren’t looking.
Work in the exhibition ranges from detailed narrative compositions to bold, gestural abstractions. Some artists push the boundaries of process and material, while others embrace subtlety, drawing power from minimalist forms. Collectively, they aim to redefine the essence of the medium into a showcase of works that challenge, provoke, and inspire.
About 9W Artists: Introducing 9W Artists, an eclectic and diverse group of Hudson Valley visual artists, founded in early 2024 by Jill Ziccardi, an accomplished New York painter and educator. Jill was seeking community with other serious local artists and selected each member for the rigor of their studio practice, their technical virtuosity, intellect, and lifelong commitment to their work. Equally important, is her goal for the group to exhibit together and create a legacy in the mainstream artworld. Each member represents a distinct direction within contemporary painting. This show is the group’s inaugural exhibition and includes work by all members: Paul Chidester, Dio Cortes, Leticia Ortega-Cortes, Edward O’Hara, Archil Pickhadze, Polly Reina and Jill Ziccardi.
