Unearthing Local Lives – Bioarchaeology and the Pine Street African Burial Ground
What can bones tell us about how people lived and how they were treated?
Join Dr. Ken Nystrom, a SUNY New Paltz bioarchaeologist who studies skeletal and mummified human remains, to explore how archaeological evidence illuminates themes of social identity, marginalization, and resilience.
He’ll also share his research with Harambee at the African Burial Ground, where skeletal remains, gravestones, and artifacts offer a rare and powerful window into the daily lives and burial practices of enslaved individuals.
Presentation followed by Q&A. No registration required, this special summer reading program is for teens & adults.
