Cover art by Ian Laughlin. Available in all major digital stores through Tunecore. (actual release date will be in June)
*The title track uses a poem written in solitary confinement by St. Juan de la Cruz–patron saint of Spanish poets. Several other tracks use poetry from famous and unknown poets.
There is a contemporary NYC thread that runs through the record in my “Ballade for Flaco” the Eurasian Eagle owl who escaped the Central Park Zoo, a song about riding the Staten Island ferry all night using an Edna St. Vincent Millay poem,
A song about my friend’s experience selling her co-op.
Also marking time is my version of Klaus Nomi’s “Total Eclipse” recorded on eclipse day. The other cover on the album is my version of Gershwin’s “Aint Necessarily So”
It’s another eclectic moody album!
UPSTATE REGGAE POSSIE
The Upstate Reggae Posse group conjures a force of musical culture that transcends mainstream reggae music renditions to present its message of rebellion, resistance, love, and hope. The group is a talented amalgamation of creativity, cultural variety, levity, and consciousness. Each member of this group is a key link in the group’s chain of musical expression, yet they have maintained their individuality to become a force to be reckoned with. Together they have embraced the reggae genre indigenous to grassroot reggae music and have been a breath of fresh air to avid music lovers via their offering of quality sound in tandem with empowering lyrics. This return to the robust roots-rock sound is a welcome product for the fans of the ever-evolving music industry.
The journey began three years ago and was eventually consolidated in 2022 when the management team found a home for the group in Hudson Valley. Out of this pivotal decision emerged a group dedicated to the enhancement of the reggae music product, and the showcase of a group of talented singers/performers creating a spark within the New York musical industry space. Their music has made a profound impact locally, with performances at several event venues, as well as providing opening acts for more established groups. The most recent showcase with the Third World Group/Band has epitomized the importance of this group, and its contribution to music development, especially Reggae. This show provided valuable insight to the ever-changing guard of Reggae music via the talented Upstate Reggae Posse group as they display a classic opening of the show that was well received by enthusiastic patrons.
