Rose Blossom (Sekar Mawar) Gamelan @ The Rail Trail Cafe

The soothing sounds of Sundanese gamelan will be alive in the forest at Rosendale’s sweet outdoor venue, the Rail Trail Café. Share a pizza or a tasty beverage, immersed in the sounds of gongs and songs from West Java, Indonesia. New musicians will be making their debut with the Catskill Mountain Gamelan in our first public performance since 2020, when we temporarily paused our musical operation first for the pandemic, then for the babies, and finally as we searched for a new home for our instruments. We are back with some of our favorite melodies, and are adding in some new repertoire, including a fun new arrangement of the Turkish song Saskin. If you like a good story, we will pause for a storytelling moment, as we read a Southeast Asian trickster tale of the famous mouse deer Kancil.
