This very special weekend workshop will provide photographers of all levels with skills in creating large-format landscape photography. Making pictures with a large-format camera in the field can be a challenge for even the most experienced photographers. In this workshop, noted photographer ANDREW MOORE will be on hand to work with you directly while you shoot on location. His goal is to help you refine your approach, both technically and aesthetically, in order to help you achieve the fluidity and discipline that large-format photography requires.

After an informal gathering on Friday evening, on Saturday you will visit some of Moore’s favorite locations in the mid-Hudson Valley, a region that has for centuries provided fertile territory for landscape artists of all genres. The group will visit local sites, on both the east and west sides of the Hudson River. We will consider a range of equipment options, film and digital exposure tips, as well as compositional and color strategies and adjustments necessary for light and weather conditions. Participants may investigate advanced techniques about shooting for later compositing, and other topics that arise as we work together.

The second day will be a photo review in Moore’s studio. Students can bring portfolios of existing work to the studio or students shooting digitally can show pictures from the previous day. Moore will moderate a group review and discussion. Afterward, Moore will demonstrate some of his methods of large-format printing and share with you some special techniques for making your big prints look even better. We will end the day with an overview, discussing how to develop your individual images into a series and options for reaching a greater audience through publishing and exhibiting your photography.

WHAT TO BRING: A portfolio of 15-20 prints or digital images, your large format camera if you have one, film and/or digital back, comfortable clothing for shooting outside during the day.
