Filmmaking is a powerful vehicle for making sense of our lives and sharing the stories we want to tell. Learn the skills you need, from framing and storyboarding to shooting and editing, to express your point of view through creation of video art.

Over 4 sessions, you’ll learn the various types of camera angles and foundational rules for framing that make a moving image both aesthetically pleasing and expressive, as well as the basics of how to cut and rearrange video footage into a meaningful scene or sequence.

What You Will Learn

  • An introduction to film theory and storytelling techniques
  • Basic building blocks of the cinematic language
  • Techniques of video production
  • Elements in video-making to tell interesting stories
  • Brainstorming of film ideas and analyzing short films
  • Composition techniques to compose proper shots
  • Storyboard, script, shoot your own short film
    (Using your phone if you don’t own a camera – the objective; to come out with a series of shots that tell a story, no editing necessary)
  • An overview of filmmaking tools (camera accessories, editing software options, etc.), even if not used in this course
  • Develop a deeper understanding and fondness for films and how they are crafted, sparking a long-lasting desire to create in YOU!
