KBD is a trio of musicians who perform long form improvisational sound pieces using electroacoustic instrumentation. This approach is experimental by both nature and design, and serves as a way for listeners to engage with deep and active listening. Its principal members are Michael Kimaid, Gabriel Beam, and Ryan Dohm. Formed in 2006, the group released [four plus one] on the Eh? Aural Repository music label before Dohm left for Los Angeles in 2007. Shortly thereafter, a brief but productive collaboration with Colin Helb saw performances vary between a trio and a duo lineup through 2008. Afterwards, Kimaid and Beam continued to play as KBD(uo), releasing an EP called Candid on FTAM and follow up full length on Eh?, Any Port In A Storm. KBD(uo) also released a DVD entitled Drop The Remainder in 2013 on the New Orleans based multimedia label The Language Foundry, and a cassette release entitled Loss/Gain on the RCN label from Akron, Ohio. Dohm was able to rejoin the group with some regularity in 2013, and KBD returned to both recording and touring as a trio configuration. KBD’s most recent cassette release, entitled III, is now available on the Eh? Aural Repository label.
