Event Type

Come join us for the third year of this hands-on youth boat building course, offered to girls age 11 and up, in celebration of Women’s History Month. Students will practice project planning, design, measurement, fabrication, and assembly while they work as a team building a rowboat. Master woodworker and shipwright, Wayne Ford will lead this course over the week of spring break.

Students will work on a small rowboat with an ideal structure for the beginning boat builder, and compact enough to be carried on the top of a car. Length: 8’1″ / Beam (width at widest point): 3’11” / Height: 1’2″ / Draft (depth below the water): 4″. Students will have the opportunity to purchase the boat when the class is completed for just the cost of materials, which is about $650.

Scholarships are available for this class, to cover 25%, 50% or 100% of tuition. Please apply before registering by March 1st.

Students can sign up for as many days of the class as they want, from one day to all five days. NOTE: the membership discount will be reflected in the final price for the event displayed on the checkout page.
