Ferns add a soft lushness to the John Burroughs Nature Sanctuary. Escape the heat in our forest of ferns and explore the world of ferns that fill both small nooks and valley floors with a summer lightness and elegance at the Nature Sanctuary. We are thrilled to welcome back naturalist Lynn Bowdery who will be joined by fellow naturalist George Moxham to explore the ferns with us. They will walk us through the intricate parts of ferns and explain how to distinguish between Lady and Marginal ferns, Polypodies and Christmas ferns, Cinnamon and Ostrich, and many others.
“The ancient hemlocks…are rich in many things…. Nature loves such woods, and places her own seal upon them. Here she shows what can be done with ferns and mosses and lichens.”
John Burroughs, “In the Hemlocks,”
