Carnivale Celebration
Carnivale Celebration
Come join the annual Carnivale: inefficient, non-urgent, unplanned, upside-down play in the spirit of something ancient and forgotten. A chance to improvise joy and show gratitude.
Carnivale – Saturday – September 7th – 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm
5:00 pm – Meet at Academy Green Park
6:00 pm – Walk to the Good Work Institute – 65 St. James Street (one block away)
We invite you to bring your own costumes, masks, instruments, and some food to share.
“Celebrations of music, dance, torchlight, mime, games, feast and folly have been central to the life of community for all times other than those when the pretensions of large-scale civilization descended like a frost on public joy. Carnival is a big word: it spans the buffoonery of the Feasts of Fools, the Saturnalia of Rome, the holy holidays of the Church’s calendar and the agricultural year, and local days of festival in which communities, for most of history, have put down their work and concentrated on enjoying themselves.”
–David Flemming, Lean Logic
Carnivale was launched in 2023 by the Kingston NY Transition Group, responding to a collective desire to change an uncertain future by celebrating it. We are planting the seeds for the growth of an annual Carnivale in Kingston, NY.
