Producer Charles Dennis was a co-founder of P.S. 122 and presented his critically acclaimed inter-disciplinary dance, performance art and video in that space for over 40 years.

Avant-Garde-Arama Wakes Up at The Lace Mill offers a smorgasbord of short works in an informal, cabaret setting hosted by Charles Dennis.

Program:

Alex Romania & Stacey Lynn Smith will  perform a work entitled ‘Ash House’ – this material is an excerpt from the evening length work ‘Face Eaters‘ which will premiere May 17 – 25 at the Chocolate Factory Theatre in Long Island City, NYC. This performance features wood ash in a contained area, with the performers utilizing safety breathing equipment.

Daniel Villegas will be performing a few poems about life and change and a few poems on the drum to lift the spirit and mind. He will be using the slam poetry style and rap to curtail his musical influence through his art performance.

“In Behalf of Words & Music” – Poems by Bruce Weber performed by The New Chance Ensemble

With Bruce Weber, Joanne Pagano Weber, Rick Pantell and Karen Whitman

Charles Dennis will present 2 short films “Feet With The Beat” (1985) and a preview of his forthcoming new film “Drone Woman/Destination Zena”

Jeff Keithline is a bassist who will perform a set of improvisational jazz/noise rock with acclaimed Saugerties-based guitarist Sal Cataldi (aka Spaghetti Eastern Music) and a percussionist to be named later.

Jillian Sweeney will perform Tether Breath” – a solo performed by Sweeney as she develops a live breath sound bed that doubles as a sonic backdrop and an internal sculpting tool for the movement itself. Part choreographed, part improvised, Sweeney converses with the audience through her dance experiments and tests the limits of her body shot through with bursts, swells, sips, and swirls of air.

Laura V. Ward will perform Pushed” a solo dance with a chair. Featuring the music: Blood of the Past by The Comet is Coming with Kae Tempest.
