It’s always great to see young entrepreneurs taking initiative and trying to establish a business in our community. Say ‘Hello’ to this week’s Doer and Dreamer, Meghan Rapp, who is making her fashion statement by opening a new boutique down on the Rondout Waterfront.
Your name: Meghan D. Rapp
Business or organization: MDR Boutique
Occupation: Owner and Designer of MDR Boutique
What is your approach to your business or occupation that makes you unique?
I believe fashion and style should be accessible to anybody and should be available without costing a woman her entire paycheck. I believe fashion is an art form that has the ability to inspire confidence. I’ve filled my store with unique, fashionable and affordable clothing, and it’s my goal to help women and girls feel their absolute best when wearing MDR clothing.
Where are you from originally?
I am originally from Kingston, but grew up in Saugerties, NY.
What brought you to the Kingston area and keeps you in this area?
I was born here. I spent my childhood here and much of my teen years. But essentially it’s family that’s kept me here. This area has always been home to me. I stayed close after graduating high school, attending SUNY Ulster and graduating with a degree in Fine Art. In recent years, the Kingston area arts community has really blossomed and I’ve very excited to be apart of that.
What is your favorite hangout in this area and why?
I enjoy being outside quite a bit. Rotary Park is one of my favorite places around. I like to bring my sketchbook, sit out by the water and let my surroundings inspire me.
When you’re not in Kingston, what’s your idea of a wonderful city to visit, and why?
I’ve always had a passion for the big, beautiful cities of the world. New York City, London, Paris, The fashion captials of the world. I try to get down to Manhattan a few times a year to help feed my need for city life. London and Paris being much less accessible, but have still been beacons of inspiration and education when I’ve visited in the past.
Tell us something that we never would have guessed about you.
I love Marvel comics, and the movies that have brought them to life.
