Doers and Dreamers – Halima Smith
I think the consensus from a lot of area women(and probably some men) is that they’re really happy that this week’s Doer and Dreamer decided to deviate from her initial career choice. Say ‘hello’ to Halima Smith whose specialty is getting rid of unwanted stuff.
Your name: Halima Smith
Business or organization: Gata Bella Waxing
Occupation: Owner/Wax Technician {body waxing}
What is your approach to your business or occupation that makes you unique?
I strive to provide a waxing experience in which women can feel comfortable and at ease during the services that I provide. I am focused on giving the proper amount of time and care that is needed to meet each individual’s needs. Since I only provide hair removal services, I am able to dedicate all of my time in that area without the client ever feeling rushed.
Where are you from originally?
Flushing, Queens
What brought you to the Kingston area and keeps you in this area?
I originally moved to Kingston in 2001 when my parents relocated and moved Kingston. I moved to Saugerties after getting married in 2009. I love the sense of community that the Saugerties/Kingston area has to offer and think it’s a great place to raise a family.
What is your favorite hangout in this area and why?
I love the feel of Uptown Kingston with its diverse and eclectic restaurants and shops. It combines such a rich history with new ideas and design and brings people together from many different backgrounds.
When you’re not in Kingston, what’s your idea of a wonderful city to visit, and why?
My favorite place to visit outside of the area is Cape Cod, Massachusetts. My family and I go every summer, and I love being within walking distance of the ocean and being able to spend the day relaxing by the water. It’s always rejuvenating and a perfect little getaway even for just a few days.
Tell us something that we never would have guessed about you.
Most people wouldn’t guess that I was originally a Criminal Justice major and had dreamed of becoming a police officer. After having my second child, I knew I wanted a career where I could have more flexibility and could spend more time with my family, so I decided to pursue another area that had always been of interest to me, and here I am! I couldn’t be happier!
