Doers and Dreamers – Che Sharp-Jackson, P.T.

The route that some people take to eventually land here in the Hudson Valley is certainly interesting sometimes. However, we should all be glad that people take that route because most likely, they will contribute to our community in a very positive way. That’s definitely the case with this week’s Doer and Dreamer,  Che Sharp-Jackson, who is doing her part to keep area residents fit and healthy.

Your name: Che Sharp-Jackson, P.T.

Business/Occupation: Always There Homecare: Rehab Supervisor and Physical Therapist
Cornell St. Studios-certified Pilates and Aerobics Instructor

What makes your approach to your business unique?
I thoroughly enjoy helping people in every aspect of their lives. Be it to become more functionally independent in order to remain in their homes or to become more physically active to achieve their weight loss and fitness goals. I like helping people “shape up ” their lives.

Where are you from originally?
I was born in Guyana, South America but was raised in Canada. Yes, my family goes to extremes. I like to say that my parents home in Sudbury is so far up north that you have to keep moving just to stay warm 11 months out of the year!!!

What brought you to the Kingston area and what keeps you here?
When I originally came to the Kingston area I was 5 months pregnant with my son and got a job working as a PT for the Kingston hospital. My son is now 15 and involved with many Kingston groups and activities both through the high school and the “Y”. I am on the board of the local YWCA which does amazing work for women and girls in the area. I love being the co-chair for the YW’s Mothers Day 5k event in May. I also thoroughly enjoy teaching classes at Cornell St Studios. And it’s owner and creator Renee Darmstadt now offers a monthly membership at a very affordable rate. You can also pay for individual class sessions! So much to chose from. So, I love the Hudson Valley and wouldn’t think of living anywhere else!

What is your favorite hangout in this area and why?
When I’m not at one of the area gyms teaching aerobics or exercising, I enjoy spending time with friends at Frank Guido’s Little Italy and DiBella’s in uptown. The staff at both places are always so friendly and make you feel like family.

When you’re not in Kingston what’s your idea of a wonderful city to visit and why?
My heart will always find a home in Toronto, Ontario. Firstly my family and friends are there and secondly, as the saying goes ” Canadians are just so damn friendly, eh!”

Tell us something that we never would have guessed about you?
As much as I love to socialize and laugh with friends and family, I equally enjoy a quiet day spent curled up on my couch watching Netflix with the firing roaring and my lil’ doggie right next to me! (After a great workout that is!!! Lol )
