KINGSTON, NY — Hudson Valley multimedia artist, author, and former local journalist Dakota Lane will host an intimate literary reading and gallery tour on Saturday, August 22, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at The Lace Mill(165 Cornell Street, Kingston).
The special event is part of her immersive visual memoir exhibition, CandyLand, which transforms complex childhood trauma into a vibrant space for resilience and collective healing. Lane, a former writer for The New York Times who has deep roots in the regional media landscape, will read select passages from her upcoming memoir. Following the reading, she will guide neighbors through a short tour of the gallery, showcasing neon artwork, personal artifacts, and interactive installations.
Raised in the 1960s counterculture, Lane’s work reflects her journey from an emancipated minor to a celebrated storyteller. This hometown event highlights her deep ties to Ulster County and the regional press, inviting the community to connect through shared narratives. Visitors can also participate by adding personal healing intentions to the exhibition’s interactive paper forest.
Admission is free and open to the public.
