Plein Air Painting

Mountain Top Historical Society presented in partnership with Thomas Cole National Historic Site:

Painters of all ages and skills are invited to come to the beautiful Mountain Top Historical Society campus for a day of plein air painting. The campus features a pond, woodlands, historic buildings, a red barn, and ice age erratic rocks. Artists are asked to bring their own supplies and set up. There will be a children’s table with watercolor palettes and brushes. At 2 p.m. there will be a showing of all the paintings in the historic 1913 U & D Train Station.

Of special note: as part of this day devoted to artistic expression in the Catskills, at 11:00 a.m., the final Greene County celebration of the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and Revolutionary War will take place in the Train Station. Greene County Historian Jonathan Palmer will speak on “The Hudson River School of Art, The Catskills, and the American Identity.”
