The Brain and Body Coalition Hosts “Casting for Calm” to Honor Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month
Free Community Event Connects Nature, Mental Wellness, and Outdoor Recreation
POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — The Brain and Body Coalition (TBBC), in partnership with Scenic Hudson, is proud to present Casting for Calm, a free “New to Nature” community event designed to promote mental wellness, reduce stigma, and celebrate Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month.
The event will take place on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at Black Creek Park and invites individuals and families of all ages to experience the healing benefits of nature while connecting with community resources and outdoor recreation opportunities.
Participants will enjoy:
- A guided nature stroll along the creek
- Opportunities to learn about local mental health and wellness resources
- Fishing equipment repair and exchange for those looking to get back outdoors
- Hands-on activities and interactive giveaways
- Community connection and conversation
- Complimentary tacos and Icees while supplies last
Research continues to demonstrate the positive impact that time spent outdoors can have on stress reduction, emotional well-being, and overall mental health. Casting for Calm was created to encourage healthy coping strategies, foster community connection, and create a welcoming space where conversations about mental health can happen naturally.
“Nature has a unique ability to bring people together, reduce stress, and create opportunities for healing,” said Heather Ann Pitcher, Founder of The Brain and Body Coalition. “Casting for Calm is about more than fishing—it’s about creating space for connection, resilience, and hope while honoring the importance of men’s mental health.”
This event is made possible through the support of Scenic Hudson, Stewart’s Shops, Price Chopper, Charlie Frank, and Casa del Flavor, which is generously providing tacos for attendees.
Space is limited, and advance registration is encouraged.
