Join us and the Women’s Studio Workshop as we host: A Culinary Uprising: The Story of Bloodroot

Directed and shot by Annie Laurie Medonis, an LGBTQ+ and women-forward filmmaker, A Culinary Uprising tells the inspiring story of Selma Miriam (89) and Noel Furie (79), who founded Bloodroot, a feminist vegan restaurant and bookstore. For 48 years, they’ve been a strong voice for diversity, women’s empowerment, and the wellbeing of all living creatures. Bloodroot has been featured in the New York Times and the Washington Post, and continues to be on the cutting edge of vegan dining worldwide.

Joining us after the film for a Q&A is Emily Larned, who authored a book about Bloodroot and also appears in our documentary, in conversation with Faythe Levine, Archivist from Women’s Studio Workshop. Larned’s exhibition, “Workshopping,” opens on October 3, 2025, and is on view at WSW through January 2026.
