Rózsa, which means “rose” in Hungarian, celebrates and reinterprets age-old musical traditions from Eastern Europe. The Hungarian and Romani music in their ever-expanding repertoire includes tranquil love songs, bittersweet stories of loss, ecstatic dance tunes, dark ballads of revenge, and transcendent celebrations of life’s blessings.

Rózsa aims to make each performance a journey to both faraway lands and inward states of being. Given the popularity of Eastern European and Balkan music, some in the audience may recognize some time-honored songs such as “Hej tulipán” and “Čaje Šukarije.” The band will briefly translate lyrics throughout the set so that everyone can appreciate the full meaning.

Band leader Katalin Pazmandi (vocals/guitar) is joined by Meghan Quinn (accordion), Lana Auerbach (violin), Carmen Borgia (ukelele), and Brian Crouse (bass).

Music events at the Rail Trail Cafe are by donation. See website for full calendar of upcoming events. Outdoor venue: events will be cancelled or rescheduled in case of heavy rain. Check Facebook page for updates.
