Performing on and in the infamous bluestone sculpture at Opus 40.

Small blankets or pillow are allowed on the sculpture for sitting.
⎤⎤⎤ is an experimental noise project formed by Chantal Michelle and Grace Villamil. Working across performance and installation, they examine processes of sound obliteration through synthesis, electronics, found sounds, and vocalization. Distortion is stripped revealing uninhabited, organic, and intuitive patterns. Through the conscious layering of complex textures, they seek to guide the listener into a state of catharsis — one that functions as both antidote and mirror to society.
⎤⎤⎤‘s work has been presented at Fridman Gallery [NY], Morphine Raum [DE] and Ormside Projects [UK]. They will premiere a new work at the sculpture museum Opus 40 in July of 2024.
GRACE VILLAMIL
An artist working across performance, sound, video, movement, & material. Her work concerns the personal history and physicality of embodied sound and its phenomena. Regenerative systems for this phenomena, along with themes related to noise, sports, ancestral excavation, healing, materiality and temporality constitute the core of her interest.
In her artistic practice she merges many worlds: reimagining basketballs as instruments; constructing public sculptural installations as listening spaces for coexistence & healing; radio waves as ecosystem for interconnection &+.
Current projects include Mumulak; Interaural Space, a community installation turned radio show on WPRB centered on noise, migration & oral histories; & ⎤⎤⎤, an experimental noise duo with Chantal. Past collaborations include projects with Black Mountain College Museum; IONE @ Pauline Oliveros’s Deep Listening Plaza; performance of For Zitkála-Šá w/ Raven Chacon @Amant nyc visual manipulation for Tyondai Braxton; &+. Her live-video manipulations as accompaniment to electronic & live instruments were performed at Southbank, London; Elbphilharmonie Kleiner Saal, Hamburg; The Broad/Redcat, Los Angeles; Issue Project Room, NYC & in Boston w/ ACT, a MIT Media Lab. Grace is a 2024 Rema Hort Mann Community Arts Grant recipient, and is a Masters of Fine Arts candidate in Music/Sound at Bard College, Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts.
CHANTAL MICHELLE
A composer and artist based between New York City and Berlin. Through the architectural manipulation of sound, she constructs densely textured electroacoustic works that disorient and immerse, inviting alternate forms of perception. Her body of work includes site-specific installations, multichannel compositions, scores for film and dance, ensemble performances, and recorded material.
Michelle has presented her work at venues, festivals, and institutions internationally, including Fridman Gallery [US], Cafe OTO [UK], MUTEK [MX], Het HEM [NL], KM28 [DE], Public Records [US], and Morphine Raum [DE]. Her discography has been published on Dinzu Artefacts, SUPERPANG, Warm Winters Ltd., Somewhere Press, and Injazero, among other labels, and has been featured in The Wire, The Guardian, and Electronic Sound. She has collaborated with composers and musicians such as Lea Bertucci, Germán Bringas, Eliana Glass, Alina Maldonado, Joanna Mattrey, and Patrick Shiroishi. In 2022, she formed the experimental noise project ⎤⎤⎤ with multidisciplinary artist Grace Villamil. She is a 2023 grant recipient from the Sonic Arts Research Unit [UK], a 2024 Fundaziun Nairs Artist-in-Residence [CH], and a Master of Fine Arts candidate at Bard College, Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts [US].
CAMILIO ÁNGELES AND JOANNA MATTREY:
Combining their explosive uses of extended techniques, electronic alterations, and innovative styles to create an arsenal of sounds ranging from traditionally beautiful to brutally intense. Their duo weaves seamlessly between pure acoustic sound and electronic distortions. They released their first record ’Hailstone Temple’ on Notice Recordings in 2023 and the album was featured in the Wire’s Adventures in Sound and Music. ‘Hailstone Temple’ is a live set of dazzling interplay between Camilo Ángeles (flute) and Joanna Mattrey (viola)…Mattrey’s viola becomes percussive, or gets strummed like a zither. Ángeles’ flute stutters, chirrups and yelps. Like Bailey and Baptista, they’re entangled as they drag each other into unfamiliar places’ – The Quietus
