Doers and Dreamers: Sven Kennedy
We all know that precious things sometimes come in small packages and that is especially true when you are talking about a start-up business on Broadway in Midtown. Finding a funky, small space with plenty of foot traffic for an eatery with a very specific focus looks like a winning strategy based on the number of customers that we saw while we were there. It is also great to see a local establishment on Broadway in close proximity to Kingston High School that makes healthy food choices available for lunch or after-school snacks to teenagers who are heavily influenced to make less-than-stellar food choices. We will be glad to see yet another business become an institution in Midtown!
Business or organization: Turn Up The Beet: Smoothie & Juice Bar
Occupation: Owner/Operator
What is your approach to your business or occupation that makes you unique?
Keeping everything local, working with the community and spreading positive energy. We also serve a pretty fun Açaí Bowl.
Where are you from originally?
I was born here in the first capital of New York
What brought you to the Kingston area and keeps you in this area?
Ma & Pa brought me here. My good friends and family, positive community action and the season change are a few of the reasons I stick around.
What is your favorite hangout in this area and why?
I’m a big fan of The Stockade Tavern and Rough Draft….both relaxing and down to earth atmospheres and both ran by some top notch people. I also like a peaceful float on the Rondout creek in the kayak.
When you’re not in Kingston, what’s your idea of a wonderful city to visit, and why?
Any city with open arms is an ideal city for me.
Tell us something that we never would have guessed about you.
I used to be a rapper with a funny name…..don’t use that against me during my campaign though..
