Weekend Happenings In and Around Kingston 12/11-12/13
Happy Holidays! It’s officially the holiday season and we’d like to wish everyone who celebrates it- Happy Hanukkah! There are plenty of festive and non-festive, virtual and in-person events occurring this weekend and we’ve selected a few highlights for you below.
Kick off this second weekend of December with plenty of art, delicious food, and that warm feeling of supporting good causes. Friday, ‘Artwork Created During the Time of COVID’ is being exhibited at the Arts Society of Kingston (ASK) featuring works of nearly 50 artists! This weekend you can support the UCSPCA ‘Deck the Paws 2020’ virtual auction by bidding on some wonderful gifts donated by area businesses and then attending their online raffle drawing (on Sunday). Enjoy the ongoing performances of ‘A Christmas Carol’ presented by Center for Performing Arts at Rhinebeck each evening of the weekend and Thursdays as well, from now until December 20th.
Saturday, you can swing by ASK and check out ‘Artwork Created During the Time of COVID’ in case you missed it. The ‘Holiday Market at Wired Gallery Outdoor Market’ in High Falls will offer ceramics, woodworking, jewelry, plenty of fine art and gallery exhibitions by local artists such as Jane Bloodgood-Abrams, Pablo Shine, Frank Palaia, John Perrella and many more! Get some holiday shopping done, enjoy beautiful art and help support local. If your children have four legs, you can get your ‘Pet Photos with Santa’ taken at the UCSPCA for just $5! ‘Wreath Making with Local Flora at OPUS 40’ is one way to take care of some of those holiday decorations while enjoying a complimentary cup of coffee or hot spiced cider! And, you can also pick up your gifts ordered from their ‘Virtual Holiday Fair.’ While you are north of Kingston, a short ride to Bearsville will let you sample some of their local restaurants’ fare while enjoying a bonfire and holiday lights for their ‘Holiday Sampling.’ Don’t forget the ever popular ‘Kingston City Library FREE Book Fair’ where you can get some FREE books and support this great institution. There’s another delicious takeout dinner being held by the ‘White Eagle Ladies Auxiliary’ and on the menu Saturday night is Lasagna! Round out a jam-packed day with a ‘Love, Joy, and Hope!’ experience at the ‘Christmas Drive-Through‘ at the Woodcrest Bruderhof in Esopus.
On Sunday, last call to support the UCSPCA ‘Deck the Paws 2020’ virtual auction by bidding on some wonderful gifts donated by area businesses and then attending their online raffle drawing on Sunday. Also, the ‘Mid-Hudson Astronomical Association’ will host a virtual lecture called ‘December Night Above the Walkway’ using the planetarium software “Stellarium” to present the sky over the Walkway as it will appear, whether we can see it or not, during nights in December. You can tune in via ZOOM and learn all about some constellations and our majestic night sky! And in case you missed it- just a short ride to Bearsville Center on Sunday will let you sample some of their local restaurants’ fare while enjoying a bonfire and holiday lights for their ‘Holiday Sampling.” There’s still time to enjoy the ongoing performances of ‘A Christmas Carol’ presented by Center for Performing Arts at Rhinebeck each evening of the weekend and Thursdays as well from now until December 20th!
