Join us for a screening of the in-process documentary, THE BRIDGE ACROSS TIME – followed by an interview with composer Peter Wetzler and Tempo’s Tom Krueger exploring the interconnectivity of music, history and community and a World Premiere performance of SANCTU.
About the Film:
The film offers a sweeping, behind-the-scenes look at the restoration of the century-old Wurts Street Bridge and explores its fascinating history. The work is captured in unprecedented detail. Rare archival material contrasts the bridge’s original 1920 build with its modern-day renewal. The rescue of this iconic, century-old suspension bridge serves as an inspiring reminder to safeguard our historic landmarks that enrich our communities.
About the Concert,
The world premiere performance of SANCTU, the name drawn from both Sanctus and Sanctuary, was composed by Peter Wetzler for this special GAMELAN KINGSTON concert. Peter “harvested” the sounds from different parts of the bridge – cables, steel and ambient environmental soundscapes. GAMELAN KINGSTON, is a group of composers and performers exploring the musical possibilities of Gamelan in contemporary and traditional styles.
