Kick off the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution and join us for the Grand Opening of Senate House State Historic Site for the 2026 season!

On Saturday May 30th from 10:00am-4:00pm, for the first time, the site will be showcasing two new exhibits in the museum building, “Revolution Comes to Kingston,” featuring the city and Senate House’s role in the American Revolution, and “Vanderlyn: The Artist,” highlighting the life and work of neoclassical painter and Kingston resident John Vanderlyn, who was born in the fires of the revolution.

The day will kick off with a ceremony and ribbon cutting featuring agency and local officials. Open-house style tours of Senate House, the 18th century home of the Van Gaasbeek family and first meeting place of the New York State Senate, will be running throughout the day. The grounds will be alive with activity, featuring re-enactors, live music, food trucks, crafts and activities on the grounds and more!

This will also mark the first stop of the Revisit the Revolution traveling exhibition, produced by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. This is the debut stop before the exhibition travels the State by van, visiting historic sites, state parks, libraries, and more, to commemorate the 250th anniversary.
