Join Ulster County Poet Laureate Mike Jurkovic for an engaging gathering exploring poetry’s role in political and social movements. The evening will feature music, an open mic, and conversation with local poets on how verse gives voice to resistance.

🎶 We’ll have music inspired by protest and change featuring the sounds of Bob Dylan, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Billie Holiday, Bruce Springsteen, Gil Scott-Heron, U2, John Lennon, Bob Marley, Joan Baez, Mavis Staples, The Clash, Pete Seeger, Nina Simone, The Cranberries, and more.

We’ll also have a selection of powerful protest poems to read aloud or take home — with works by Langston Hughes, Wilfred Owen, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Kenneth Patchen, Allen Ginsberg, Patti Smith, W.S. Merwin, Wendell Berry, Martín Espada, Wisława Szymborska, Adrienne Rich, Denise Levertov, Muriel Rukeyser, Anne Waldman, Walt Whitman, Philip Levine, Gwendolyn Brooks, Harryette Mullen, Ilya Kaminsky, Gregory Corso, and Jane Hirshfield.
