Perowsky / Torn / Medeski / Ultan
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
David Torn – a self-described “textural guitarist” as well as a producer, film composer, recording artist, and sideman. He’s well-known for an innovative playing style that employs a self-developed digital looping system. His urgent, atmospheric, effects-drenched sound blurs the lines between rock, jazz, and avant music. @davidmtorn
John Medeski – Pianist/organist John Medeski is an adventurous performer best known as one-third of the genre-bending trio Medeski, Martin & Wood. Equally comfortable behind a Steinway grand piano, Hammond organ or any number of vintage keyboards, Medeski is a highly sought after improviser and band leader whose projects range from work with John Zorn, The Word (Robert Randolph, North Mississippi Allstars), Phil Lesh, Don Was, John Scofield, Coheed & Cambria, Susana Baca, Sean Lennon, Marc Ribot, Irma Thomas, Blind Boys of Alabama, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, David Byrne, and many more. @johnmedeski
Aliya Ultan (AKA Nocturnal Cellist) is a composer-performer and multimedia artist from Brooklyn, NY. Her career spans from contemporary and avant garde music to theater, circus, and immersive electroacoustic installations. Her sound has been described as a shape-shifting voice moving between orchestral lyricism, cathartic noise, and deeply personal forms of storytelling. Aliya has collaborated with luminaries such as John Lurie (The Lounge Lizards), electroacoustic pioneer David Behrman, Aaron Dilloway (Wolf Eyes), and composer-performers Tim Berne, Craig Taborn, Tyshawn Sorey, David Torn, and George Lewis among others. @nocturnal_cellist
