“New York Holographic Artists”
Our current exhibition “New York Holographic Artists” features the work of holographic artists from NY state. The work is largely historic featuring many different kinds of holograms and reflects the vibrant community of holographic artists that congregated in NYC in the 70’s and 80’s. This is a unique opportunity to experience the very varied styles and types of holograms that were being created in that earlier time.
Due to the loss of silver halide recording materials around 2000, when Kodak, Agfa, Ilford, and Fuji stopped producing holographic film, holographic art almost disappeared. The HoloCenter is reawakening this community and building a new one of young artists thanks to new inexpensive lasers, new self-developing holographic recording materials, new tools for making digital holograms and our educational programs offering workshops for the general public and for schools. Recent funding through the City of Kingston is making it possible for the HoloCenter to offer workshops for at risk students in our teaching facility at the gallery.
Join us to experience something unique – we are the only facility in the world that offers exhibitions of Holographic art on a full-time basis.
