On Saturday, July 26 at 7:00 p.m., experience an evening of boundary-blurring new music as composers Neal Todten and Buck McDaniel present original works that trace bold paths through Southern traditions and modern innovation.

Neal Todten, a New Orleans-based composer and keyboardist, will perform his acclaimed organ score for House of Direction — a haunting and hypnotic film recently screened at this year’s Big Ears Festival. Drawing on early American Minimalism with a fresh compositional voice, Todten’s score deepens the visual experience with layered textures and meditative force.

Buck McDaniel, a Mississippi-born, New York-based composer, offers a set of original compositions that blend the raw spirit of Southern fiddle traditions with the intricate patterns of American Minimalism. The result is music that feels both ancient and urgent — resonant, rhythmic, and deeply alive.

This concert invites audiences into a sound world where history meets innovation, and where the roots of the American South stretch forward into bold new territory.
