The Kingston Library presents a free screening of the award-winning documentary “Join or Die,” followed by a Community Joining Fair where attendees can connect with local clubs, nonprofits and civic organizations. The award-winning documentary, inspired by Robert Putnam’s book “Bowling Alone,” examines how civic and social engagement has declined over the years. The film features interviews with Hillary Clinton, Pete Buttigieg and former Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, along with experts including Priya Parker, who studies how meaningful gatherings bring people together. It also highlights communities nationwide working to rebuild connections.

Immediately after the screening, the Joining Fair will give attendees a chance to engage with local clubs, nonprofits and civic organizations looking for new members, volunteers and participants. Attendees can also discuss how the film’s themes relate to local efforts to strengthen connections.
