Join us for an exciting Brazilian Percussion Workshop!
Discover the power and energy of Brazilian rhythms in this immersive, hands-on workshop. Whether you’re a seasoned musician or a total beginner, all are welcome to explore the vibrant sounds of Brazil through percussion!
What You’ll Learn:
- Play a variety of percussion instruments, including familiar ones like congas, snare, tambourine, and triangle, as well as uniquely Brazilian instruments like the berimbau, central to the martial art of Capoeira.
- Experience the electrifying Samba-Reggae, a fusion of Brazilian samba and Afro-Caribbean beats, born from Bahia’s Black Carnival groups (blocos afros) in the 1970s.
- Gain insight into rich cultural traditions such as Candomblé (an Afro-Brazilian spiritual practice) and Capoeira (a rhythmic martial art with African roots).
- Work with an experienced, passionate instructor for an authentic, hands-on learning experience.

Meet the Instructors:
Amarildo Costa has been playing music since he was a child in Salvador, Bahia, now known as “the City of Music” in Brazil for the many rich forms that have emerged there. He has performed professionally in Bahia and now collaborates with diverse ensembles in the New York/New Jersey area. Amarildo also leads the Brazilian Percussion Ensemble at Ramapo College of New Jersey.
Max Liebman is a musician, engineer, producer, and educator living in Kingston, New York. He performs in various groups around the Hudson Valley, produces music from his Anthrophonic Studio, and teaches music theory at Ramapo College of Jersey.
