Between Water and Sky explores the Hudson River and Erie Canal as places that hold memory, movement, and layered ideas of home. Through quiet landscapes shaped by fog and shifting skies, the series reflects on how land and water carry histories that remain present.

Sikena Khadija is a photographer and multidisciplinary artist based in Kingston, New York. Her work explores Black memory, migration, and the ways landscape, especially rivers and waterways, carry stories over time. Working across photography, sound, and video, she is drawn to the space between water and sky as a place of reflection, belonging, and return. She is currently studying Art History and Visual Culture at Bard College. Her work has been exhibited throughout the region and has been supported by Arts Mid-Hudson. She is currently developing Tidal, a project tracing Black memory along the Hudson River and the Northeastern waterways.
