Doers and Dreamers – Corinne Wolcott

Everyone is faced with an amazing array of healthcare options these days and each of those options is continually demonstrating its effectiveness for people with many different types of conditions. Meet this week’s Doer an Dreamer, Corinne Wolcott, who offers her own set of unique healing practices to those who need them.

Your name: Corinne Wolcott, M.Ac.O.M, L.Ac.

Business or organization: TuiHealthcare , 446 Broadway, Kingston, NY

Occupation: Chinese Medicine Practitioner, Licensed Acupuncturist, Certified QiGong and Yoga Instructor

What is your approach to your business or occupation that makes you unique?
I love that Chinese Medicine has many tools in the tool chest: acupuncture, massage, moxibustion heat therapy, cupping, nutrition, and QiGong. All of these methods are combined in different ways to meet the needs of the specific person I’m working with, and the entire person and environment is considered. Chinese Medicine connects all of the dots.
Something I’ve been doing recently is incorporating QiGong into healthcare sessions. Beginning with twenty minutes of a slow, meditative movement is a relaxing, cleansing start to acupuncture. Most people are familiar with Tai Chi, which is a form of QiGong. I’m certified to teach various forms so I select a part of a QiGong form that best suits people’s healthcare concerns and since it’s a few simple movements they are able to do the QiGong on their own.

Where are you from originally?
Brockport, New York.

What brought you to the Kingston area and keeps you in this area?
What brought me back is a special connection to the land that I first experienced during undergraduate school in 1999. After years in New York City, and six years in Portland, Oregon the land was still calling to me. I also felt an urge to be on the same coast as my birth family and I’ve been able to spend more time with them.
While it’s the land that called me, it’s the community of people that keeps me. There’s a kinship, kindness, and creativity in the ways people live and relate here. I’ve explored so many things! Catskill Gamelan Orchestra, sailing on the Hudson River, Rosendale Cafe Chess Club, Master Gardener training, Tango classes – all with terrific, generous people.

What is your favorite hangout in this area and why?
My very favorite is Cornell Park.

When you’re not in Kingston, what’s your idea of a wonderful city to visit, and why?
I like any place where I can get a little muddy and go unnoticed.

Tell us something that we never would have guessed about you.
My sister and I were born on the same day but two years apart.
