National Skip the Straw Day is an event held the fourth Friday of every February to raise awareness about how many straws end up as litter and how these straws ultimately affect our environment. According to National Today, Skip the Straw Day was created by a group of young activists in Whitehall, Michigan in 2017. The teenage activists called themselves “The Coral Keepers” and established Skip the Straw Day in response to the state of plastic pollution on the planet and the damaging effects of plastic waste on creatures in the world’s largest oceans.
