This August The Lace Mill Arts Council presents the posthumous work of Frank R. Johnston and his widow, Barbara J. Johnston.

The 2 met in 1979 at The Metropolitan Museum of Art and fell in love discussing art as they toured the European and Impressionist classics, and having their first kiss surrounded by Egyptian sculptures. Frank, an art professor and once the Arts Education Director at the Walker Arts Museum in Minneapolis, was at the time receiving praises from periodicals like the NY Times for his organic art compositions and exhibiting in many New York art galleries. Barbara, a self taught artist with a degree in Sociology was meanwhile pursuing practice as a medical social worker at Benedictine Hospital in Kingston, NY.  Seven months after Frank and Barbara met  they eloped and for the next 26 years they lived together with a strong commitment to each other. Frank passed away,  succumbing to Cancer in 2015, leaving behind a body of work featured together with Barbara in a number of venues over the years.

If ever a romance between 2 artists could be told through the display of their work, “Our Relationship and The Art Attraction,” exhibiting at The Lace Mill beginning  August 2nd will examine just that.

The opening reception for “Our Relationship and The Art Attraction” will be on Saturday, August 2nd from 5pm to 9pm and run through August 31st. Gallery hours after the opening  are Saturdays and Sundays from 1pm to 4pm.
