Floating Ink – Suminagashi Marbling

In this workshop we will explore the calming and meditative technique of this Japanese style of marbling paper using ink and water. Using two brushes and sumi ink, we will experiment with shapes, colors, and the air itself as it changes the shapes on the surface of the water. The circles and swirly patterns are then “printed” onto paper to create a beautiful record of a moment in time.

Once dry, you can use the papers for binding books or other objects, or simply frame and enjoy as 2D art.
