Event Type

Join us for a Catskills-centric event that offers the chance to pound rocks, learn how to make watercolor paint, and create your own art work from the results!

New Paltz, NY-based fine artist and organic watercolor paint maker Laura Leigh leads our workshop outdoors, bringing with her a colorful collection of sedimentary rock and clay from the Catskills, Appalachian, and Green Mountains. In the first half of the class, Laura will share her knowledge about basic geology, the history of pigments, and how to safely pound, mix, and mold rock dust into a unique, artistic medium that is both historic and modern. The second half of the class will allow you to pick a spot in an eclectically-landscaped outdoor area, and get to work creating your own watercolor painting. All supplies will be provided. No prior experience in art or painting is required, and we encourage all types of people to enjoy the act of putting brush to paper and get in touch with their creative side. Iced coffee, mimosas and other refreshments to accompany the event.

Rain date:  Sunday, September 17, 2023, same time
