Do you have an hour a week to learn new ideas to stretch your grocery dollars and make healthier choices for your family? Back to school season is here and with a busy schedule, staying active and eating well can be a challenge.  Cornell Cooperative Extension’s Expanded Food and Nutrition Program (EFNEP) is here to help! Let’s talk about low-cost quick and healthy meals, and share tips on how to achieve your family’s health and wellness goals. All you need is an hour a week!

Classes will be held at the Kingston Library every Tuesday evening from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. They will begin September 13th and ending November 1st. Lessons are taught by Mary Brimmer, Nutrition Educator of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ulster County. Eating Smart, Being Active offers a series of interactive lessons to resource-limited families free of charge. We will engage in conversation related to the concerns and experiences of families at every session. Through hands-on activities and mutual support, participants will learn small steps towards sustainable changes to attain their health, wellness and financial goals.

The Expanded Food and Nutrition Program (EFNEP) utilizes evidence-based resources and has been proven to help families with limited income make healthier nutrition and lifestyle choices. Topics include stretching food dollars, food safety, reducing salt and sugar intake, and making simple, healthy meals for the family. New recipes and ways to incorporate physical fitness into daily routines are included in every class.

Participants who graduate from the program receive a Certificate of Completion, an EFNEP Cookbook with delicious and affordable recipes along with kitchen tools to support healthy eating.
