SUMMARY:Dakota Lane's CANDYLAND
DESCRIPTION:CandyLand\n\nVisual Memoir Exhibition Opens at The Lace Mill\n\
nKINGSTON\, NY — This August\, Hudson Valley multimedia artist and NY Ti
mes journalist Dakota Lane debuts CandyLand\, an immersive visual memoir t
hat transforms childhood trauma into a vibrant\, trauma-informed exhibitio
 n. Through neon artwork\, personal artifacts\, interactive installations\,
and a community paper forest of healing intentions\, the exhibition invit
es reflection\, resilience\, and collective healing while intentionally av
oiding graphic or triggering content.\n\nRaised in the 1960s countercultur
e of Woodstock and San Francisco\, Lane became a legally emancipated minor
at age 14 after a childhood marked by exploitation and isolation. She att
ended an alternative music-based school connected to figures including Bob
Dylan\, Jerry Garcia\, Bill Graham\, and Angela Davis\, where teachers us
ed drugs with students. Eighty of her classmates later died in the Jonesto
wn tragedy led by cult leader Jim Jones. Lane draws from this complex hist
ory to create a space for healing and connection.\n\nBy transforming profo
und isolation into creative expression\, Lane went on to author young adul
t books and produce films for The New York Times.\n\n“My childhood was u
nusual\, but the cycles of exploitation\, violence\, and isolation are hea
rtbreakingly common\,” says Lane. “I hope this work encourages people
to share their own stories and inspires communities to interrupt cycles of
suffering and heal together.”\n\nVisitors are invited to become part of
the exhibition by adding personal healing intentions to a growing paper f
orest. Community members may also contribute leaves through local partners
including Broadway Bubble and FØLK Refillery. Opening week features a fr
ee workshop\, 50 Ways to Tell Your Story\, exploring trauma-informed self-
expression through creative practice.\n\nA longtime trauma-informed facili
tator\, Lane has worked throughout the Hudson Valley with adults in recove
ry\, marginalized communities\, seniors\, and youth\, using art to foster
resilience. The exhibition also includes anonymous messages of hope and re
silience created by mentored youth participants.\n\nExhibition Details\n\n
