For their Fall 2021 “living history” presentation Theatre on the Road and the Old Dutch Church in Kingston will offer a new living history tour, BOOM TOWN
Tours will be conducted on Saturdays in October at 7 pm in the Old Dutch Church Cemetery, 272 Wall Street, Kingston, New York. CDC Covid regulations will be followed.
Theatre on the Road researcher and writer, Jessica Boyd, offers, “Boom Town is a timely theme considering the current growth in the uptown Kingston area. We will be giving our guests an opportunity to step back in time, to the roaring 20s, where they’ll meet 7 characters who really made Kingston roar.”
During the one-hour BOOM TOWN tour guests will meet Legs Diamond, a notorious Prohibition era gangster who bootlegged beer out of the Barmann Brewery in Kingston. Vistors will also witness the banter between Freddie and Fae, two quirky vaudeville performers who appeared at Keeney’s Theatre on Wall Street. Jay Klock the publisher and editor of the Kingston Daily Freeman, will make an appearance, along with Sarah Leventhal, the owner of Leventhal’s Furs on Wall Street who will talk about Kingston’s booming retail trade. Augustus Van Buren, a celebrated attorney in KIngston, will give us the skinny on a racially charged murder trial.
A virtual version of the tour will be available on www.livinghistoryny.com beginning November 1.
Tickets are $15 per adult, $10 students and seniors, 12 and under are free and must be purchased by visiting www.livinghistoryny.com. For information: 845-475-7973.
