Take a tour of the tidal mudflats of the Rondout Creek in search of migratory birds, shorebirds, and terns.
The mouth of Rondout Creek provides rich habitat for migrant and local birds alike. Great blue herons, osprey, bald eagles, cormorants, and other local water birds are easy to spot. Bring your binoculars to look out for migrating waterfowl and songbirds on this cruise aboard the 100% solar-powered tour boat Solaris. With her quiet electric motors, you should be able to get up close and personal with all kinds of birds.
Led by birding enthusiast Peter Schoenberger, tour the mudflats behind the Rondout Lighthouse, the Sleightsburgh barge graveyard, Sleightsburgh spit, and Port Ewen Bay.
All tickets include boat ride and general admission to the Hudson River Maritime Museum, open 11 am to 5 pm.
Solaris was built by and is operated by the Hudson River Maritime Museum right here in Kingston NY. Solaris is the only solar-powered boat in operation on the Hudson River. This quiet vessel does not require any fossil fuels to operate and is 100% solar powered.
