Mayor Steven T. Noble and the Albany Symphony are pleased to announce a special day-long event on Sunday, June 19, 2022 celebrating the Empire State Trail.
The TrailBlaze NY series celebrates the completion of New York’s 750-mile Empire State Trail with events over five weekends and across nine counties. The TrailBlaze Kingston event will include a full day of outdoor activities culminating in a performance by the Albany Symphony at Hutton Brickyards followed by fireworks.
Schedule of events (at Hutton Brickyards pavilion unless otherwise noted):
All day Explore the region by boat or by rail with a Rip Van Winkle Boat Tour, explore the Hudson River Maritime Museum and take a trip on Solaris, their solar-powered boat, and tour the Trolley Museum of New York and take a scenic ride on a restored trolley.
8:00-10:00am Self-guided cycle and hike in Sojourner Truth State Park
1:00-5:00pm Self-guided tour of Kingston Point Rail Trail
5:00pm Food and drinks available from Hutton Brickyards and local vendors
5:00pm Free FunZone activities and a Dad Joke Contest
6:15pm Opening Act: Taína Asili
7:30pm Albany Symphony performance
The Albany Symphony performance program includes: Loren Loiacono: Empire Lines for Percussion Quartet and Sinfonietta; Aaron Copland: Appalachian Spring; Viet Cuong: Re(new)al for Percussion Quartet and Orchestra featuring Sandbox Percussion with popular favorites by John Williams, John Philip Sousa, and a folk song sing-a-long.
“We are so thrilled that the Albany Symphony chose Kingston as one of the stops on their Trailblaze tour through New York State,” said Mayor Noble. “With the newly-opened Sojourner Truth State Park that is home to a portion of the Empire State Trail, and the gorgeous views from the Hutton Brickyards, this special event will highlight some of the amazing parks and open spaces that Kingston has to offer.”
Albany Symphony Music Director David Alan Miller said, “The Albany Symphony and I are so excited to make our Kingston debut with this free concert which includes Aaron Copland’s magnificent Appalachian
Spring and a glorious fireworks finale. It’s a great opportunity to welcome the community to the gorgeous Hutton Brickyards for some really beautiful music celebrating Kingston and the Empire State Trail. We’re extremely excited to be joined by the amazing percussionists of Sandbox Percussion for Loren Loiacono’s dazzling world premiere composition inspired by famous nearby Hudson River Landmarks. Thank you, Mayor Noble, and everyone in the mayor’s office for partnering with us on this thrilling, one-of-a-kind weekend.”
Parking will be limited. Parking will be available at Hutton Brickyards, with overflow parking available at Kingston Point Beach & Park.
