There’s an old French Renaissance style building that stands between 7th Avenue and Broadway on West 57th Street in New York City. It’s The Art Students League of New York. The Art Students League was founded in 1875 and opened its Woodstock satellite school in 1906, later to become The Woodstock School of Art. It schooled some of the greatest artists of our time such as Georgia O’Keefe, Norman Rockwell, Jackson Pollock, and many others who have studied and taught there. Those who have studied there recognize a continuous spirit in both schools present to this day. This July The Lace Mill Arts presents The Spirit of The Art Students League. Works from Keith Gunderson, Karen O’Neil, Richard Pantell, John A. Varriano, Karen Whitman and many more representing a new generation of established artists, instructors, and emerging artists from The Art Students League and The Woodstock School of Art. Curated by James Martin, The Spirit of The Art Students League will run from July 6- 28 at The Lace Mill Galleries 165 Cornell Street. Opening reception is on Saturday July 6 from 5 to 9 pm. Gallery hours are weekends from noon to 4 pm.
