Hudson River Maritime Museum

This special workshop is offered in conjunction with the sail freight schooner Apollonia, which will be at the museum’s docks undergoing restoration work for several weeks in May, 2018.

Students will work with experienced sailor and knot enthusiast Christin Ripley to learn how to make eye splices for halyards and sheets, how to lay a grommet for rope strop blocks, and how to make proper whippings and seizings, including contrasting whipping to mark lines. All student-made products will be used on board the Apollonia.
