Coach House Players Theater

Barbara Melzer, director, is shown here with Seymour (Valentin Shauger) and Audrey (Anna Miressi) in a rehearsal scene from Coach House Players’ presentation of the musical “Little Shop of Horrors”. This deviously delicious Broadway and Hollywood sci-fi smash musical by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, has devoured the hearts of theater-goers for over 30 years.

Set in the “skid-row” area of New York City, the action takes place in Mr. Mushnik’s (Richard Quinn) struggling flower shop. Outside, among the wine-o’s and other unsavory characters, three young girls, Ronnette (Akasha Davis), Crystal (Grace Jarrold) and Chiffon (Jennelle Liscomb) sing about life and conditions of the area. Seymour and Audrey work in the flower shop. He is secretly in love with her, but she already has a boyfriend, Orin (Scott Woolley), a dentist who is very abusive to her. Unfortunately Seymour is too meek to do anything about the way Orin treats her.

One day Seymour happens upon a strange and exotic looking plant, resembling a venus fly-trap and brings it in to the flower shop. He names it Audrey II because of his love for Audrey. After finding a source of food for the plant, it begins to grow and attract customers to the shop. Business is booming, and Mr. Mushnik is happy and grateful to Seymour. Audrey II begins talking (Jovan Bradley is the voice) to Seymour and that’s when things start changing for everyone.

Additional cast members are Ada Graham-Lowengard, Jeremy G. McLoughlin, Terri Dwyer, Matt Hall, Howard Riggs and Maria Smith.
