On April 18, 2011 our son, Anthony David Missasi died by suicide. Since then I’ve raised thousands of dollars for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to raise awareness about suicide. But for years I’ve dreamed of starting a foundation in Anthony’s name to support the musical pursuits of school aged children. Anthony was for the most part self-taught in various instruments. The only formal training he had was in elementary and high school percussion. He played guitar or drums in several bands. But he would have loved to have taken private lessons concentrating on the drums, his first true love.
We are so excited to announce that on July 21, 2019 we are hosting our first fundraiser show at the BSP in Kingston, NY to kickoff the Anthony Missasi Scholarship Fund! Money raised will be to award scholarships to kids who attend or want to attend the Rock Academy in Woodstock, NY.
“The Rock Academy is a performance based, interactive music school run by Jason Bowman who brings more than 30 years experience as a professional musician and teacher to the table.…..We believe that the best way to teach most anything, and especially music, is with a hands on approach. Therefore, our entire school is dedicated to getting kids playing music in an as authentic way as possible. The Rock Academy is a year round tuition based program. Students take a weekly 45 minute lesson in their primary instrument and attend weekly rehearsals when in season (roughly 30 weeks per year) in preparation for our seasonal shows.” FMI go to https://rockacademy.com/overview/
Tickets to our show will be sold at the door; $15 for adults & $10 for kids. This show will feature the students of the Rock Academy with many other talented bands.
Please come see us at the show. Doors open at 4:00pm. It promises to be a great time!
